Premier League 2023: Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United – Preview and Updates

Nottingham Forest looked like one of the frontrunners to return to the Championship in the early part of the season. However, they climbed out of danger after a string of victories (mostly against relegation candidates). They are currently 14th in the Premier League, but only two points above the relegation zone. With only five points separating the 12th and 20th teams in the league table, we are in for an exciting relegation battle this season.

Newcastle United have been outstanding this season, but with recent investments, that is not surprising. They are in fifth place, four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, and a place in the Champions League next season is guaranteed. The Magpies have played one or two fewer games than the majority of the teams, and they have a chance to move up to third place in the next two games. Following the Nottingham Forest game, they will host Manchester United, a direct contender for a Champions League spot.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United will face off in the Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United of Premier League 2023 on 18th March 2023 at the City Ground, Nottingham.

Statistics for Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United

Nottingham Forest

Last weekend, Nottingham Forest travelled to London to face Tottenham Hotspur. Richarlison appeared to have put the home side ahead early on, but the goal was ruled out for offside. However, Kane scored in the 19th minute to make it 1-0, and England’s captain doubled his and his team’s lead 10 minutes before the break from the penalty spot. Son scored a third goal in the second half after good work from Richarlison, and while Worrall pulled a goal back for Forest in the 81st minute, the game was already over, and injury was added insult in stoppage time when Ayew missed a penalty.

Injury concerns for Boly, McKenna, Awoniyi, Henderson, Kouyate, Biancone, Richards, Hennessey, Wood, and Johnson ahead of the Newcastle game.

Newcastle United

The Magpies would have expected a difficult game against Wolves at home, and that is exactly what they got. Despite taking the lead in the 26th minute through Isak and dominating the first 45 minutes, Wolves equalised in the 70th minute through Hwang, and Newcastle needed a goal from Almiron 11 minutes from time to salvage a victory.

Joelinton is suspended for this game, and Gordon, Fraser, and Krafth appear to be out due to injury.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United Prediction

Forest have fared much better at home this season and will be hoping that the City Ground faithful can inspire them once more as they attempt to climb out of the relegation zone.

However, the absence of Johnson and Wood could limit the hosts’ ability to threaten in front of goal, and with Newcastle coming into Friday’s game in high spirits after last weekend’s victory, we can see the Magpies edging out the Tricky Trees in a close game. Check out the odds at Cricbaba!

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United Key Player:

Allan Saint-Maximin – Despite only appearing in 17 games this season and scoring one goal, Saint-Maximin has impressed for the Magpies in recent weeks and could be crucial in Newcastle’s quest for Champions League football this season.

The Frenchman is one of the Premier League’s most skilled dribblers, and his ability to tie defenders in knots really gets the crowd going.
