Hampshire (Match Odds – 2.10):

Preview:

Because of the unsettling presence of James Vince, it would be foolish to rule Hampshire out of any game. Vince has 351 runs in five games thanks to a beautiful blend of explosive and refined batting. It’s odd that his first match in 2023 ended with only one run, given that everything since then has been 88*, 88*, 103*, and 71*… to put it simply, Vince is the reason Hampshire is competitive.

Hampshire can really shine in games where Vince receives a lot of batting assistance. McDermott’s 69* against Sussex was exactly what they needed, though his scores are wildly inconsistent. Prest, on the other hand, is looking better, with around 30 in the last two games.

Liam Dawson is putting pressure on opposing batsmen with the ball (especially his 4/21 performance against Essex). He’s gotten 9/108 with a fantastic ER of 6.34… Earning wickets while limiting the run rate is about all a bowler can do! Ellis’ 6/118 is also noteworthy, but keep an eye on Currie and his 5/64.

Full Squad:

Joe Weatherley, Ian Holland, Liam Dawson, Keith Barker, Bradley Wheal, Mason Crane, Felix Organ, Scott Currie, Nick Gubbins, Ross Whiteley, Ben Brown, Kyle Abbott (South Africa), Mohammad Abbas (Pakistan), Benny Howell, Kyle Abbott (South Africa), , Ben McDermott (Australia – Vitality Blast), Nathan Ellis (Australia – Vitality Blast)

Somerset (Match Odds – 1.75):

Preview:

It’s interesting how Somerset is so dominant, because it appears to be a true team effort. The batters are pitching in when they can, but Tom Kohler-Cadmore stands out the most with 213 runs. He scored 396 points last season and is expected to go even higher this season. Banton has done well with 165 runs, but he was recently injured, so the team may be without him for a few games.

Somerset is arguably winning because of their formidable bowling, with fast bowler Ben Green tearing apart the league with 14 wickets and only 138 runs allowed (ER 7.32). Green is simply too much for many opponents, as evidenced by his 4/20 performance earlier in the season. Matt Henry has 10 wickets, but Gregory (8) and van der Merwe (8) have also contributed significantly.

Full Squad:

Tom Lammonby, Tom Abell, George Bartlett, Lewis Goldsworthy, Steven Davies, Josh Davey, Roelof van der Merwe, Craig Overton, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Sean Dickson, Shoaib Bashir (Berkshire), Peter Siddle (Australia – County Championship and Vitality Blast, until the end of July), Cameron Bancroft (Australia – County Championship, until May 17), Matt Henry (New Zealand – County Championship and Vitality Blast, May 11 until the end of July)

Hampshire vs Somerset Batsmen Worth Watching

Following an incredible run of runs, captain James Vince could only contribute 5 runs in Tuesday’s win over Middlesex. Australian keeper-batter Ben McDermott, on the other hand, has hit scores of 69 not out and 47 in his last two matches.

Hampshire’s top-order batsman, Tom Lammonby, has replaced the injured Tom Banton and has two scores of 34 in the last three games. Sean Dickson led the team in scoring with 42 runs from 29 balls in the previous game against Essex Eagles.

Hampshire vs Somerset Bowlers Worth Watching

Hampshire produced a strong bowling performance to defend a total of 164 and maintain their recent form. On Tuesday, all five Hampshire bowlers took at least one wicket, with John Turner taking 3-30 and bowling a maiden.

Only Craig Overton and Lewis Gregory failed to pick up a wicket for Somerset in their most recent match. Matt Henry and Ben Green each took three wickets, while Roelof van der Merwe took two and experienced Australian Peter Siddle dismissed a batter.

Hampshire vs Somerset Toss Prediction

Due to the large margin of difference, the team that wins the toss will most likely bat first. The team batting first has won 40 of the 62 T20 games, so it’s a good indicator of the pitch conditions.

Hampshire vs Somerset Pitch Report

The Rose Bowl is ideal for batting because the pitch is flat and the outfield is lightning fast. As a result, the games here are usually very high scoring, with totals of around 180 being common. Spin isn’t as useful here, but pacers who know the pitch well can get lucky.
