The first edition of South Africa’s most anticipated franchise Twenty20 League is set to begin on January 10th, 2023, with six teams competing.
A total of 33 matches will be played across six cities: Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha, Cape Town, and Paarl.
MI Cape Town (owned by Reliance Group), Pretoria Capitals (owned by JSW Group), Paarl Royals (owned by Royals Sports Group), Durban Super Giants (owned by RPG Group-Sanjiv Goenka), Johannesburg Super Kings (owned by India Cements), and Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the teams competing in SA20 2023. The auction held in Cape Town raised a total of R125 million.
Tristan Stubbs earned the highest salary of R9.2 million, while Donovan Ferreira of the Joburg Super Kings was sold for R5.5 million.
The competition will feature international stars such as Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Rashid Khan, and Odean Smith.

1. Dewald Brevis (Mumbai Indians Cape Town):
He is one of South Africa’s most promising young talents. Following his outstanding performances at the Under 19 World Cup, he played in various leagues around the world. Dewald Brevis shone in both the Caribbean Premier League and the Indian Premier League.
Brewis’ fans refer to him as Junior ABD because of his batting stance and hitting ability. The Mumbai Indians recognised his talent and signed him for their IPL campaign. 2. Jos Buttler (Paarl Royals):
Buttler is well-known in the cricketing world. He is regarded as one of the best white ball players of his generation. He was instrumental in England’s campaign for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Buttler is in the best shape of his life, having scored 225 runs in the World Cup at an average of 45.00 and a strike rate of 144.23. He has also done well in the captaincy role that he was given prior to the World Cup.
Buttler is a world-class performer, and it would not surprise me if he was the overall leading run scorer in the inaugural SA T20.
3. Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Eastern Cape):
Aiden Markram is currently ranked fifth among batters in the ICC Men’s T20 rankings. In this format, he has been very consistent for South Africa.
Markram has a variety of shots that he can use against both fast bowlers and spinners. His home record attests to his ability on South African pitches.
When the team is in trouble, Markram can not only provide impetus to the innings, but he can also bring stability. He’s one of the batters to keep an eye on in the upcoming tournament.
4. Harry Brook (Joburg Super Kings):
Harry Brook is in the best shape of his life. Based on his recent performances, he has established himself as an essential member of England’s T20 squad.
Brook is in Pakistan right now for the Test Series. He has already scored two centuries in the series and is unstoppable in any format of the game.
He is proficient on both the front and back foot. In T20 cricket, Harry Brook has a strike rate of 148.38. He has also scored a century in the format, and he is likely to be the top run scorer for the Joburg Super Kings in the upcoming competition.
5. Will Jacks (Pretoria Capitals):
Will Jacks is a seasoned campaigner who competes in various T20 leagues around the world. He usually bats first, but he can play any position in the batting order.
In T20 cricket, Jacks has an average of 29.10 and a strike rate of 154.39. His highest format score is 108*.
