ICC Mens T20 World Cup 2022: Australia vs Sri Lanka – Match 19 Preview and Updates

Australia vs Sri Lanka – Australia will want to put their recent defeat behind them. The hosts’ start was far from ideal, as they were outplayed in every department.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka extended their winning streak from the tournament’s first round by defeating Ireland by 9 wickets in Hobart. This year, Australia has won six of eight T20Is against Sri Lanka.

Australia has only lost one T20I at home this year, to Sri Lanka. At this point, with the Australians under pressure and the Sri Lankan bowlers on top of their game, this could be an exciting match between the two sides.

Australia’s key batsman at the top will be David Warner. In 2022, the southpaw batsman averages 43.00 from 8 innings. Warner scored a brilliant 73 off 44 balls against England the last time he played in Perth.

The Super 12 Group 1, 19th Match between Australia vs Sri Lanka will take place on October 25th, 2022 at Perth Stadium, Perth.

Australia vs Sri Lanka

Australia (Match Odds – 1.19):

Preview:

The only true competition for Australia in this Super 12 group was England, who had recently defeated Australia in a T20I series. New Zealand had a poor record in T20Is in Australia and were considered the underdogs in the match.

Unless the loss to ZN shakes the hosts’ confidence and momentum, it won’t have much of an impact on the semi-finals. Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Afghanistan should be easier targets to win those crucial points, if not pushovers.

Aside from David Warner, Australia requires Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell to form middle-order partnerships. Finch isn’t looking good right now, and Sri Lanka’s Dhananjaya de Silva is a likely opponent for the Australian captain.

Australia used only five bowlers against New Zealand, and it would have been a better strategy to include Maxwell and Marsh as well. Cummins and Hazlewood were costly in their outings, but they should bounce back against Sri Lanka.

While Tim David’s style of play may not always be expected to deliver, especially in the event of a collapse, Matthew Wade is a dependable batter in the lower order.

Full Squad:

David Warner, Aaron Finch(c), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade(w), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Steven Smith, Ashton Agar, Cameron Green, Kane Richardson

Players to watch out for:

David Warner

In 96 T20Is, the left-handed opener has a century and 24 fifties. In this format, his best score is 100 not out.

Glenn Maxwell

The batting all-rounder led Australia in scoring with 28 runs off 20 balls on Saturday. In his most recent 11 T20I innings, he hit three fours and one six.

Josh Hazlewood

The right-arm fast medium bowler has had an outstanding 2022 season, especially at home in this format. Against New Zealand, he dismissed Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips.

Possible Playing XI:

Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Sri Lanka (Match Odds – 4.70):

Preview:

The Asia Cup champions quickly recovered from their crushing loss to Namibia in the first match of the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka has won three straight matches since then, including their first Super 12 match against Ireland.

Kusal Mendis has two consecutive fifties and will be a key batsman for Sri Lanka at the top in this match. Pathum Nissanka was replaced as the opener for their first Super 12 match against Ireland by Dhananjaya de Silva.

Sri Lanka benefited from the change in the opening combination, as the two added 63 runs for the first wicket. The key middle-order batsmen who have yet to find their form in this World Cup are Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

While Asalanka looked promising in his recent outing against Ireland, Rajapaksa has yet to play an inning worthy of his talent and potential. Dasun Shanaka, the captain, has produced some spectacular finishes for the side lower down the order.

Even he, however, has failed to reach double figures in his last two innings. The big names in the all-rounders category are Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya de Silva.

While de Silva will be crucial at the top, Hasaranga can fill gaps lower down the order and help Sri Lanka finish strongly. Keep an eye out for M Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, and Hasaranga to break through with the ball.

Full Squad:

Kusal Mendis(w), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Ashen Bandara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Jeffrey Vandersay, Kasun Rajitha, Pramod Madushan, Pathum Nissanka

Players to watch out for:

Kusal Mendis

The opener keeper-batter was outstanding once again in the victory over Ireland. He hit 68 runs off 43 balls, including three sixes.

Maheesh Theekshana

The 22-year-old off-spinner has two wickets in the last three games and seven dismissals on the season.

Wanindu Hasaranga

The bowling all-rounder has taken the most wickets so far in the competition. He dismissed the dangerous Paul Stirling and then finished the innings with two wickets.

Possible Playing XI:

Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Ashen Bandara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara

Australia vs Sri Lanka Top Team Batsmen

Australia’s batsmen are David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Aaron Finch. Marsh hit 16 runs off 12 pitches on Saturday and always scores at a high strike rate.

Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, and Charith Asalanka are our Sri Lanka batting tips. During his 22-ball unbeaten innings against Ireland, Asalanka had a strike rate of 140.90.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Top Team Bowlers

Our bowling picks for Australia are Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Adam Zampa. Zampa was one of only two Australian wicket-takers in the defeat on Saturday.

For Sri Lanka, we recommend Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, and Binura Fernando. In Sunday’s win, Fernando took a crucial wicket of Harry Tector.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Head to Head

Despite Australia’s four-game overall lead in the 25 T20Is between the two teams, the most recent games have been closely contested. Both teams have won two of the last four matches.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Toss Prediction

Australia would be better off batting first so that their key players can re-establish their confidence in the dugout. Batting first teams have won 13 of the 21 BBL matches and one of the three T20Is played at this venue. Sri Lanka would feel more at ease relying on their spinners to defend a competitive target against the mighty Australians.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Pitch Report

The Perth Stadium has only hosted three Twenty20 Internationals. The most recent game played here was the second match of Super 12, in which the bowlers won. In domestic T20 matches, the average first innings score at this venue is 167 runs. It demonstrates how good the surface is at this venue. A total of 170-175 would put the batting team in a good position to defend and win the game.

Perth’s pitch has historically been beneficial to new-ball bowlers, with excellent bounce and pace. England struggled while chasing a low total in their most recent match here. Both teams have some excellent pacers and will be eager to take advantage of a bouncy, fast-paced pitch.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Prediction

Sri Lanka has won three consecutive games, with their opener scoring back-to-back fifties in his last two innings. However, there are no positives in Sri Lanka’s batting lineup, and Australia’s tough bowling attack could pose a difficult challenge for the 2014 champions. Sri Lanka has a good chance of making things difficult for the Australian batters, but we believe the defending champions are a much stronger squad and will be favorites in our match prediction. Australia is the favourite to beat Sri Lanka at the odds of 1.19.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Most Recommended Player for Bet:

Josh Hazlewood took two more wickets against New Zealand, and he is our pick to be Australia’s top wicket taker on Tuesday. In this match, we recommend backing Josh Hazlewood to take over 1.5 wickets.
