India Tour of New Zealand 2022: New Zealand vs India – 1st T20I Preview and Updates

India’s search for the right T20I combination continues, with the country now toying with the idea of a new captain leading a young side overseas.

Except for Kohli, none of the senior players made an impact in the T20 World Cup’s big games. And it’s past time for India to look ahead and find players who have a modern approach to the game.

New Zealand has chosen a strong squad that includes nearly all of their key players, including a struggling Kane Williamson. Add in the home conditions, and the Indians face a formidable challenge.

Since India won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the game has evolved significantly. The batting approach has evolved, and most of India’s players were stuck in the past, playing traditional cricket.

This new-look squad, led by Hardik Pandya, will provide selectors with an idea of who could be potential replacements for many seniors in the coming years.

The 1st T20I between New Zealand vs India will take place on November 18th, 2022 at Sky Stadium, Wellington.

New Zealand (Match Odds – 1.75):

Preview:

The Black Caps had a strong start to their T20 World Cup campaign and were cruising until the wheel came off in the semi-finals. Williamson’s inconsistency has recently harmed New Zealand, and his strike rate is also a major concern.

The New Zealand lineup is full of aggressive batters. There are power hitters at every position, from Finn Allen at the top to Glenn Phillips in the middle and Neesham at the bottom.

Kane Williamson does not appear to be a good fit in this lineup. While Daryl Mitchell can also play an anchor role and steady the innings, the batting all-rounder can adjust to the situation and pace his innings as needed.

This squad lacks Trent Boult, Mark Chapman, and Martin Guptill. The only changes from the T20 World Cup squad are listed above, with the rest remaining unchanged.

Adam Milne and Blair Tickner are both expected to play in the India series. The opposition has some excellent T20 players who can easily clear New Zealand’s small boundaries. As a result, NZ pacers will have a very small margin for error.

Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner are two other key bowlers who have performed well against India in T20Is. Coming in at number 7, Santner adds depth to the batting order. In the death overs, he can score some quick runs.

Full Squad:

Kane Williamson (C), Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Blair Tickner

Preview:

This will be the start of a new era for India’s T20 team. They have received harsh criticism following their World Cup campaign. Some of the accusations include a traditional approach to batting, backing out-of-form senior players, and poor captaincy.

And, for the most part, they make sense. KL Rahul, India’s T20 opener, was given far too many chances despite openly claiming that strike rates are overrated and continuing his poor form.

Finally, some deserving candidates will return to T20Is in India. In the long run, Shubman Gill at the top could be a viable replacement for Rahul.

Sanju Samson, the wicket-keeper batsman, is another key batsman who can change the fate of Indian cricket in T20Is. His heroics as the franchise’s captain earned him a few international games but not a spot in the World Cup.

He is on the New Zealand tour and will be expected to play in the starting XI. Umran Malik, a genuine pacer, also deserves another chance, and under Pandya, he can be developed into a key bowler in India’s arsenal.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have returned to the squad, as has another spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Full Squad:

Hardik Pandya (c), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik

New Zealand vs India Toss Prediction

Teams batting second have won 10 of the 19 T20Is played at this venue, making it a tie between batting first and second. Given the weather conditions, both teams would prefer to bat first. Having runs on the board would be advantageous if the DLS method is used.

Many of the games at Wellington’s Sky Stadium have been impacted by rain. The average first-inning score at this venue is 154 runs, which is not particularly high. However, given the weather forecast, we believe a 165 total can be a match-winning total.
